JAY — The 6 Chics and a Dude, Jay Middle School students, will attend the Lego League World Festival on Wednesday through Saturday, April 14 to 17, at the Georgia Dome and World Congress Center in Atlanta.
They earned the right to represent Maine by winning the Maine Lego League Champions Award on Dec. 12 and will compete with more than 8o teams from across the country and nearly every continent.
The team’s research project deals with the issue of distracted driving and the team presented Gov. John Baldacci and members of the Legislature with new legislation they drafted. Their proposed bills include improving Maine’s existing distracted driving law by making distracted driving violations that result in death and serious injury criminal violations and includes a new law banning texting while driving.
The team will do the presentation they are going to do for the World Festival Judges in Atlanta for the Jay Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 a.m. Friday, April 2, at the American Legion, Reynolds Avenue, Livermore Falls.
