Lora Austin Duley

1932 – 2010

WINTHROP — Lora Austin Duley, 78, of Winthrop, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 31.

She was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Key West, Fla., the only child of Robert and Eleanor (Robertson) Duley. She later moved with her family to Maine and was educated at Kent’s Hill School and later the University of Maine at Farmington.

She spent 25 years teaching elementary education in the Mount Vernon school system, while raising her family in Vienna. She returned to the University of Maine in Farmington to obtain a master’s degree in education.

After retiring from teaching, she was the office manager at Crowell Plumbing and Heating in Winthrop for 15 years.

She was an avid Mt. Blue High School sports follower, especially following her grandson’s playing career and her son’s coaching career. Besides her family, she was very passionate about animals and was a long-time supporter of several animal shelters in the area.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert, of Winthrop; two daughters, Dorothy King and her husband, Darryl, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Donna Duley and her special friend, Brenda Satrom, of Grand Forks, N.D.; one son, David Duley and his wife, Eleanor, of Farmington and their two children, Robert Duley, who attends the University of Connecticut, and Jonathan Duley of Farmington; and her dog, Skippy, and cats, Tiger and Snowy.

Special thanks to Dr. Magioncalda and the staff at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care.
