BETHEL — Betsey S. Foster, MPH, will conduct an introductory program on the “Movement Basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine: Meditation, Qigong and Tai Chi” from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Friday, April 9, at the Bethel Congregational Church, Church Street.

Foster’s workshop will explore quieting the mind through meditation, gathering qi into bodies through the gentle movements of qigong, and smoothing the flow of qi through some elemental tai chi movements.

Foster said, “Meditation, tai chi and qigong all help to lower your blood pressure, improve balance, enhance respiratory capacity, improve the biochemistry for diabetics and improve joint functions.”

Foster, who has a master’s degree and directs tai chi and qigong for All, LLC, has studied the arts since 1988 and taught since 1993. She has published articles in national journals and has been a lecturer at numerous conferences in Maine, North and South Carolina and Washington.

Her focus is on the health benefits of these arts. She teaches at various health centers and hospitals in Maine as well as at the Dempsey Cancer Center for Health and Healing in Lewiston.

The program is sponsored by Western Mountains Senior College as a community service. The public is invited and admission is free. For more information, contact Peter Gartner, program committee chairman, at 665-2181.
