OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Historical Society will begin its 2010 season at 7 p.m. Friday, April 23, at the Otisfield Town Office. The first order of business will be the annual election of officers and directors.
Following announcements and reports, the society will hold a group discussion centered on the question, “How did you get to Otisfield?” The intent of the question, according to the program organizers, is to discover and record the motivations of today’s town residents for coming to Otisfield or for staying once they arrived.
Whereas most of the first 18th-century settlers arrived from Massachusetts or New Hampshire in search of new farm land and timber, it is expected that today’s residents will have much different reasons, and that no two people will have quite the same ones. It is hoped that all those attending will be willing to tell their individual stories.
All are welcome, including residents of other towns, who are urged to answer the question by substituting their town for Otisfield. Refreshments will be served after the program.
