RUMFORD — The community is invited to gather from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 24, at the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street to prepare layette kits and birthing kits which will be donated to the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

The kits are used in areas around the world that have suffered natural disasters. Those wishing to assist with the kits will cut plastic for birthing sheets, cut fabric for baby blankets and sew baby gowns.

In addition, the United Methodist Church will launch “Imagine No Malaria,” a $75 million campaign to eradicate deaths caused by malaria. The Rumford Center and Rumford United Methodist Churches will gather redeemable bottles and cans for the cause.

Returnables may be dropped off at the church or at the parsonage, 50 Franklin St., on April 24. Those who have bottles or cans to donate, but have no way to take them to the church, may contact Dot Wing at 364-3552 for pick up.
