AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The issue of jobs is also turning into a focal issue in the gubernatorial campaigns of Maine’s party-affiliated candidates.
On Tuesday, Republican hopeful Les Otten unveiled his jobs plan. Some of its components are themes of the other six GOP contenders, who include Steve Abbott, Bill Beardsley, Matt Jacobson, Paul LePage, Peter Mills and Bruce Poliquin.
Meanwhile, the privately funded candidates are in a last-minute push for campaign contributions as the reporting period ends Tuesday. Mills is the only Republican qualified for public campaign funding.
Two of five Democratic candidates — Libby Mitchell and Pat McGowan — have qualified for Clean Election funds, while Steve Rowe and Rosa Scarcelli are going with private financing. Officials say it’s still unclear whether John Richardson will qualify for public financing.
