LEWISTON — The University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College recently celebrated the opening and dedication of their new reflection room. The room was made possible by the USM LAC Diversity Committee, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and the Office of Student Success.

The room is designed to offer space for the USM LAC community to use for reflection, praying and meditation. The grand opening event included a ribbon cutting ceremony with several members of Lewiston-Auburn’s multi-faith representatives in attendance, along with faculty, staff and students from the college.

“USM LAC, as a higher learning institution, recognizes the spiritual needs of it’s students and staff by offering a sacred space for reflection, praying and meditation,” said Reza Jalali, coordinator of multicultural student affairs for USM. “We understand the spiritual landscape of our community is changing and these days an increasing number of our students feel the need to pause, find the time to reflect and pray during the school hours.”

The new refection room is located directly across from the Occupational Therapy lab, near the Franco-American Collection room. A video of the grand opening is available for viewing on the campus Facebook page, www.facebook.com/usmlac/.
