I recently returned from a missions trip in Haiti and had the wonderful pleasure to have Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert as part of my team of 20 men and women and teens.

I compliment Gilbert for his dedication to our efforts while in Haiti and his ability to adapt in a very destitute country.

Needless to say, the situation in Haiti goes beyond description. People there are desperate for any help they can get. It is people such as Gilbert who are willing to travel to that area and work hard to help who make a difference. His attitude was very positive and he demonstrated great enthusiasm for the people of Haiti. He was always ready to do whatever job that was needed to be done.

He worked very hard, because we were assigned the task of demolishing a church/school that was destroyed by the earthquake in January. His willingness to work hard goes beyond description; his work ethic is excellent.

I am proud to have been with him for 12 days and to have had the opportunity to get to know him better. He is a great man and I look forward to inviting him back to Haiti.
