FREEPORT — The Durham-Freeport-Pownal school system will hold its annual budget meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Freeport High School Gymnasium.

Registered voters from the three towns will have an opportunity to review and modify the 2010-11 budget presented by the board of directors and ultimately adopt a final budget. It is proposed at $23,373,100.

The validation referendum is set for June 8 in each town.

RSU 5 is in the unique situation this year of being able to hold on to all of our educators in addition to making successful, incremental investments that enhance learning opportunities at all levels — with minimal tax impact to the three communities it serves, a board spokesman said.

Durham would raise (RSU 5 assessment) $2,443,980; Freeport, $10,513,379; Pownal, $1,306,860 in local tax dollars.

If approved as presented, the anticipated tax impact is: Durham reduction of $55,252; Freeport increase of $7,006 and Pownal reduction of $11,506.

Budget approval is based on the combined majority of votes from all three municipalities, not individual towns.
