OXFORD — The Oxford Hills School District is looking for a new assistant superintendent.

Advertising began last week to fill the position being vacated by Rick Colpitts, 50, of Peru, who will begin his job of superintendent July 1. He is replacing retiring veteran Mark Eastman, 64, of Paris.

“The committee will interview candidates who meet the qualifications and will make a recommendation to me,” said Colpitts of the advisory committee that will be established to oversee the hiring process. “Ultimately, I will take their recommendation under advisement and put forth to the board a candidate who meets the criteria and someone I feel would work well as part of the team in the central office.”

The advisory committee will comprise the school Board of Directors, midmanagement and central office employees and “perhaps” a union official, Colpitts said.

The job listing asks for qualified candidates to submit a resume, letter of application and three letters of reference by June 15.

The position is expected to be filled by the start of the new fiscal year on July 1.

Colpitts said it is budgeted as a full-time position. Although the salary is negotiable, officials have budgeted $79,000 in the 2010-11 budget to pay for the position.

The money includes some federal dollars to pay for part of the assistant superintendent’s responsibility to administer federal homeless and drop-out programs.

More details about the job are being worked out currently, he said.
