Rumford firefighters rush down an empty Congress Street late Saturday afternoon to the Muskie Building after electricity suddenly went out, trapping two people in an elevator. Lt. Keith Bickford said firefighters had to lower the elevator to the first floor to free the pair, who were not hurt. After power was restored about 90 minutes later, a Central Maine Power spokesman said an insulator failed in Mexico, causing a cross-arm to burn, which tripped a breaker at the power station. He said 1,910 customers in parts of Rumford and Mexico lost power.
