This busy weekend, as people fight the traffic, I hope they will take the time to notice the uniformed veterans and members of the auxiliaries near the grave sites, often accompanied by local youth bands, usually between the hours of 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

I would ask those people to please slow down or, better yet, pull over out of courtesy and respect, not only for those trying to honor the dead but for those of the Armed Forces who have served to keep the freedoms we now enjoy and the many who have paid the ultimate price.

What is a minute of our time, or even 20 minutes of sacrifice? These brave men and women gave their whole lives for us. Can we spare 20 minutes for them this Memorial Day?

I hope the weekend is all people might hope for, but just please, don’t forget how it came to be.
