The Half Moon Jug Band, a four-man band that fills each performance with jokes, stories and mandatory singalongs, will bring its homespun music to the Schoohouse Arts Center in Standish on Saturday, June 5.

Band members — Troy R. Bennett, Mike Petruk, Steve Brewer and Glen Bolduc — have deep roots in Maine with accents, songs and squeaky rubber lobsters to prove it.

They play guitars, banjos, mandolins, hefty bass riffs and singalong choruses, as well as kazoos, trumpets, harmonicas and drums.

The Half Moon Jug Band thrives on interaction with its audiences. For the four musicians, it’s not just about playing music on-stage. It’s about singing, dancing and making people happy.

The Half Moon Jug Band began by entertaining passersby and shopkeepers on Exchange Street in Portland more than 10 years ago. Today, it plays concerts and festivals all over the Northeast.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15, with proceeds to be used for theater upgrades at the arts center at 16 Richville Road. For tickets, call 642-3743.
