DIXFIELD — A 24-year-old Freeman Township woman was seriously injured Thursday after a near, head-on collision with another vehicle on Route 2 near the intersection with the Common Road.
Three other people were also injured and taken to area hospitals.
Dixfield Police Chief Richard Pickett said Patricia Webber was riding in the front passenger’s seat of a 2001 Oldsmobile four-door sedan shortly after 6 p.m.
The driver of the sedan was Dale Ouellette, 35, of Strong. In the back seat was a 2-year-old boy secured in a car seat.
As Ouellette was driving east along Route 2, Mariah R. Buote, 16, of Jay, was driving a 2004 Dodge sports utility vehicle west, Pickett said.
The two vehicles collided and Buote’s vehicle landed in a ditch. She was taken by NorthStar Ambulance Service to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. The clinical coordinator at the hospital said Thursday night that she could not provide any information on her condition.
Med-Care Ambulance Service Director Dean Milligan said at the scene that he believed her injuries were not life-threatening.
Ouellette and the toddler were taken to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance Service with non life-threatening injuries. The nursing supervisor at Rumford Hospital said the two were still being evaluated Thursday evening.
Webber was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by Med-Care Ambulance Service. A spokeswoman at the hospital said she could not give any information on her.
Webber had to be extricated from the vehicle with a hydraulic tool.
Pickett said the accident was being reconstructed by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office. No cause had been determined Thursday night, and it is under investigation.
Both vehicles were destroyed.
Responding to the scene were the firefighters and/or engines from the Dixfield, East Dixfield and Peru fire departments, members of the Dixfield, Mexico and Rumford police, and the Sheriff’s Office.
Traffic was diverted to the Common Road from the east, and to the Canton Point Road and Common Road from the west for about two hours.
