AUBURN – VFW of New Auburn Little League held on to defeat Dube Gravel from South Lewiston Little League, 9-8, in a wild clash Thursday night. The game featured four lead changes, with VFW scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Donaven Cunningham pitched 3 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts for VFW. Brandon Case came on in relief to register three strikeouts and earn the save. Both pitchers scored in the five-run third inning for VFW. Danica Nadeau led the offense with three hits, three stolen bases, and three runs scored.
Ben Doyle pitched 4 2/3 impressive innings, recording 11 strikeouts for Dube Gravel. He also scored twice and hit two singles. Nathan Osgood pitched well in relief and reached base twice. Jeremy Madore singled, belted an RBI double and utilized his speed on the base baths to score both times.
Poisson’s won its second straight major division game in a 6-4 victory over Cyber Solutions. Bryce Lebel pitched four strong innings, recording nine strikeouts. Zach Boyd and Cameron Dubay led the offense with two RBIs each. Calean Pelletier and Andre Coachman each had an RBI for Poisson’s.
Zion Gurney, Zach Couillard, Jordan D’Oliveira and Brandon Asselin combined for 10 strikeouts on the mound for Cyber Solutions. Gurney led the offense with three hits, an RBI and a run scored.
South Lewiston
LEWISTON – Dube Gravel edged Gendron’s, 6 to 5, in a competitive contest Wednesday night at South Lewiston Little League.
Jeremy Madore pitched four-plus strong innings, keeping Gendron’s runners from causing too much damage. Shawn Vincent, Andrew Harriman and Alex Porter all got on base twice for Dube Gravel, scoring one run apiece.
Jacob Tiner threw three solid innings for Gendron’s and also got two hits to help his cause. Zach Brito, Jordan Bergeron and Dominic Adams each reached base twice for Gendron’s to keep the game close throughout. Benjamin Doyle slammed the door for Dube, allowing no runs over the final 1 2/3 frames.
Auburn Suburban
AUBURN – Mason Brushwein singled to left field to to score his brother Ian and clinch a thrilling 5-4 Hardy, Wolf & Downing win over East Auburn in Auburn Suburban Little League action.
Jacob Dubuc of HWD and Matt Verrill of East Auburn squared off in the pitchers’ duel. Joe Cooper cracked an RBI double to get East Auburn going. Two great catches by Levi Sterling highlighted the East Auburn defense. Aaron Fanjoy’s strong play in the field and an unassisted double play by Alex Thompson were the gems for HWD. Kyle Romero earned the win in relief.
Pepsi picked up three victories in recent ASLL major baseball.
Strong pitching from C.J. Jipson, Drew Lashua and Gavin Bates led the way to a victory over HRH. Jipson led the offense for Pepsi with two singles and a triple, while Lashua, Bates and Jarod Norcross-Plourde chipped in two hits apiece. Cole Butler and Race Bouchard shared the mound duty for HRH. Bouchard, Butler and Brandon Knapp supplied the offense for HRH, while Nick Hathaway shined in the field.
Lashua went 3-for-3 and Norcross-Plourde pitched five strong innings as Pepsi defeated Hardy, Wolf & Downing, 10-3. Jack Coyne got Hardy, Wolf & Downing off to a fast start with a towering two-run homer in the first.Pepsi answered in the bottom of the first with three runs as Donovan Covert walked, Lashua doubled, Bates singled and Daveon Brooks followed with another double. Eli McBride made a spectaculer play in the field for Pepsi, as did Kyle Romero for HWD.
Pepsi won a tough battle with Auburn Fire Fighters, 8-5. Jipson and AFF’s Austin Cox battled on the mound. Bates was the hitting star for Pepsi with two doubles and a single. Noah Moreshead collected a pair of hits for AFF.
The lead bounced back and forth before Pepsi stopped a late-game comeback with strong relief pitching from Jarod Norcross-Plourde. Jipson’s diving catch in center field and alert throw to double the runner at second base ended the game. Kodi Berube was AFF’ defensive star.
