PERU — Selectmen advised a couple Monday night to file a new building permit application that reflects the larger garage they built at 7 Short St.
Planning Board Chairman Joe Roach and Code Enforcement Officer Jack Plumley told selectmen that Bill and Don Paradis exceeded the size of the building granted under their permit. Roach said the board found the garage footprint was over 128 feet, the height was over 7 feet, the square footage was over 254 feet and plumbing was done without a permit.
He said the board asked the Paradises to submit a new permit application that reflected what they had done to the property, which is not in shoreland zoning.
Board of Selectmen Chairman Jim Pulsifer told the two to have the new permit application finished before next week’s selectmen’s meeting Monday night.
Roach, who is also road commissioner, said there are cracks in the Chapel bridge concrete and the beams under the bridge need painting.
“I have a method of attack and will be working on it,” he said.
Roach also said he had paint for a crosswalk on Route 108 opposite the memorial, but needs a crosswalk ordinance before he can do the job.
Selectmen’s secretary Kathy Hussy said there are still five people who have not declared their professional equipment for taxation. The board told her to keep trying to contact them.
Building permits were approved for Wayne Thurston on Mineral Springs Road for a porch; Cleon Merrill on Peru Center Road for a deck; and Phil Buskey on Irish Farm Road to replace a deck.
The board will review the guidelines for use of the Peru Elementary School and take action next week.
