LIVERMORE — A weekend of Civil War re-enactment events at the Washburn Norlands Living History Center will conclude with Maine’s premiere Veterans Homecoming Concert on Sunday, June 13.
The concert is a tribute to veterans of all wars and includes a mix of patriotic songs, ballads from the Civil War period and arrangements of songs from frontier America.
Veterans and their families are invited to attend the concert and be seated in places of honor.
The free concert will take place at 3 p.m. in the historic country church where friends and political colleagues of Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant once worshipped as boys and young men. Several of Livermore’s Washburn brothers were close allies and promoters of the 16th and 18th presidents.
Joining composer/singer/pianist Mitchell Clyde Thomas of Durham will be guitarists Paul Bright of Livermore Falls and Neil James of Auburn; and soloists Michael Litchfield of Sumner, Patty Vieta of Sabattus, Caroline Young Coffin and Dana Coffin of Auburn, and Katie St. Pierre of Minot.
The weekend event, Rally for Norlands, will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 12-13, at the 19th-century historic settlement. As many as 200 Confederate and Union military and civilian re-enactors from across New England will participate.
Admission is $8 for one day; children under 12, $5. Discounted weekend rates are available. Contact Norlands at 897-4366 or [email protected].
