LEEDS — The Leeds Historical Society will host a visit by Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ Mobile Appraisal Coach from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Leeds History Center at the Leeds Municipal Building, Route 106. Instant, on site appraisals of antique or collectible items will be provided by Thomaston Place’s Kaja Veilleux and John Bottero. There will be a suggested donation of $10 each item or $25 for three items, and 100 percent of the proceeds will support the Leeds Historical Society.
Participants are encouraged to bring any items that they want to have appraised to the event. If items are too large to be transported to the coach, detailed photographs can be used to determine their approximate value. There are no appointments, and each person will have a chance to meet with an appraiser on a first-come, first-served basis.
The funds raised at the event will help support a number of the historical society’s projects. A recent program on Leeds’ one-room schools brought a number of requests for the group to publish the program, and it’s looking into doing this. Funds will also go towards the preservation of historical items and the rehabilitation of the old Leeds Town House, which houses the History Center. Last year, with the help of a work crew from Rural Community Action Ministry, the group was able to rebuild the porch and paint the building.
