100 years ago, 1910

A big rooster confined in a box beneath the porch of a neighbor’s house is bothering a Lincoln sStreet family. They claim that the rooster starts crowing at 12 o’clock promptly every night and keeps it up for the rest of the day. The man and woman who work hard every day in the mill are kept awake the greater part of the night, they say, and the little children can’t take their naps during the day.

50 years ago, 1960

The Androscoggin Amateur Radio Association held its regular meeting Tuesday night at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport. Plans were discussed for a future meeting at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Named association publicity director was Howard Feldman of Auburn.

25 years ago 1985

Androscoggin County Commissioner James E. Dougherty of Sabattus, a former husband of Hollywood starlet Marilyn Monroe, will appear on a nationally syndicated television show in the next few weeks to discuss his nearly four-year marriage with the late actress.

Dougherty said the interview with NBC’s  Entertainment Tonight crew, scheduled to be taped Monday in Boston, could run any time in the next few weeks, but he suspects it could be aired on June 19, the anniversary of himself and the former Norma Jean Mortenson.
