POLAND — Voters gave strong support to efforts to preserve open space on Bragdon Hill and approved expanding the area covered by the Poland Spring Tax Increment Financing districts in Tuesday’s balloting.
By a vote of 801-391 voters approved extending the boundaries of the two Poland Spring TIF districts down Route 122 to the intersection with Route 26, and then north and south along Route 26 to include the area now referred to as South Poland.
This area has been identified as key to the town’s economic development plans under way to extend water and sewer lines from the Poland Spring bottling plant to serve this area.
By a 963-299 margin, voters approved establishment of a conservation easement on 205 acres on Bragdon Hill, keeping it as an open space resource for the town. And, by a 959-301 vote, agreed to place a conservation easement on 25 acres adjacent to the 205-acre parcel that the owner is in the process of donating to the town.
Voters also authorized expending $9,000 for the legal work associated with setting up the conservation easements. The authorization vote passed 866-386.
