AUBURN — Eight area high school seniors, along with their parents and some faculty members, were honored by the Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, at the April meeting.
The annual presentation of Good Citizen and Good Citizenship awards and medals was held at the Auburn Public Library.
The recipients were chosen by fellow students and faculty for outstanding qualities in leadership, dependability, service, patriotism, honesty and courage. The Good Citizens were presented pins and certificates and were eligible to compete for a scholarship presented by the National Society DAR. The Patriotism winner received engraved bronze medals, certificates and lapel pins. This award is given through the National Defense Committee.
The requirements for both are dependability, leadership, service and patriotism.
All accredited high schools aer eligible to nominate seniors for the annual awards.
Chapter Vice Regent Billie Wight, Regent Carol MacNeill and Chapter Chairwoman Mary Jane Densmore welcomed the guests, parents and faculty. After a brief meeting, MacNeill and Densmore presented the awards.
The DAR Good Citizens were: Brittany F. Wiley of Buckfield Junior-Senior High School, daughter of Michael and Darcy Wiley of Buckfield; Hanna M. Mogensen of Edward Little High School, the daughter of Mark Mogensen and Chris Gillis of Auburn; Travis Adams of Leavitt Area High School, the son of Mitchell and Karen Adams of Leeds; and Peggy M. Matheny of Lewiston High School, the daughter of Edmund and Terry Waite of Lewiston.
The Good Citizenship Medal recipients were: Fred C. Parks of Buckfield Junior-Senior High School, the son of Norman and Laura Parks of Buckfield; Christopher D. Camire of Edward Little High School, the son of Rick Camire and Cindy Hammond of Auburn; Kate McKeown of Leavitt Area High School, the daughter of Paul and Patricia McKeown of Turner; and Ruth Choate of Lewiston High School, the daughter of Andrew and Karen Choate of Lewiston.
The program, given by Elizabeth Hotchkiss, DAR state registrar, was a slide show presentation of her trek of the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia.
Refreshments were served by MacNeill, Beverly Robbins and other members of the chapter.
