WILTON — Authorities continued their investigation Sunday into a fatal crash Saturday night on Route 2 in Wilton.

“It’s going to be a few weeks before we get a full determination,” said Lt. E. Page Reynolds of the Wilton Police Department. “We’re still collecting evidence.”

The 9:43 p.m. crash claimed the life of 28-year-old Wayne A. Fletcher of New Vineyard after his Suzuki motorcycle collided with a Ford Contour driven by Stacey Reeves, 21, of Livermore Falls. The Wilton Police reported Sunday morning that the crash occurred at 9:43 p.m. near the Big Apple Store, located at 380 Route 2.

Reynolds said that Reeves was traveling on Route 2 toward Farmington when she turned left into the Big Apple Store. Fletcher was traveling in the opposite direction on Route 2 headed toward East Dixfield when he ran into the passenger side of Reeves’ car and was thrown from his motorcycle.

Fletcher was pronounced dead at the scene. Reeves suffered minor injuries.

Reynolds said that investigators found some of Fletcher’s items as far as 30 to 35 feet away from the impact. He said that officers returned to the scene Sunday morning to continue their search during daylight hours.

It was not clear as of Sunday evening whether or not Fletcher was wearing a helmet.

Reynolds said that the Maine State Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department are assisting Wilton police with the crash reconstruction. The Jay Police Department assisted at the scene Saturday night.

Reynolds said that Route 2 was closed to traffic for more than three hours.
