FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners appointed six people to a Public Relations Committee on Tuesday to distribute information to residents county-wide on a proposed $4.2 million building project.

The project, which will go before voters on Tuesday, Nov. 2, would include the proposed purchase and renovation of Church Street Commons and an addition to the Sheriff’s Department building.

Commissioners appointed District Attorney Norman Croteau, assistant district attorneys, Jim Andrews and Andrew Robinson, attorney Paul Mills, Economic Development Director, Alison Hagerstrom, and Farmington Board of Selectmen Chairman Stephan Bunker, county Deputy Clerk/Deputy Treasurer Charisse Keach said Wednesday.

Bunker is also on the county’s Building Committee and is operations manager at the Maine Emergency Services Communication Bureau.

Commissioners plan to add members to the Public Relations Committee, Keach said. They are also looking to have one representative from each county district, she said.

In other business Tuesday, commissioners approved the purchase of a 2011 two-wheel drive, seven-passenger GMC Savana to be used as a jail transport van. Commissioners initially voted to go with low bidder Quirk Ford for a 2010 Dodge, all-wheel drive, if it meets bid specifications. The cost was $20,562. However, after calling Quirk it was learned the van was no longer available, Keach said.

They then voted to go with O’Connor GMC for the Savana for a cost of $23,106, she said. The other bidder was Hight Chevrolet in Farmington.

Commissioners also approved full-time-permanent employment status for deputy Matthew Brann.

Brann, a former Farmington police officer, successfully completed his six-month probationary period with the county, Pike said.

Brann’s hourly wage will go from $13.11 to $15.84, the five-year pay step, Keach said. Once he completes his sixth year of experience in law enforcement in November, his wage will increase to $15.93 an hour, she said.
