LEWISTON – Lewiston Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Lewiston High School tennis boosters, the Maine Tennis Association and the University of Southern Maine tennis programs, will sponsor two free clinics on Friday, June 18.

Youth clinic will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the adult clinic scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. The youth clinic will focus on net play, volleys and overheads. The adult clinic will focus on doubles play techniques and strategy. Players are encouraged to bring their own doubles partner if they wish.

Additionally, the Huskies Tennis Open is scheduled as a New England sanctioned tennis tournament fundraiser on Saturday and Sunday at the LHS tennis courts. There will be multiple divisions, including men’s and women’s open singles and doubles tournaments and mixed doubles. A 45-and-over men’s singles and doubles tournament also will be held.

Lewiston Rec tennis director and LHS girls’ tennis coach, Anita Murphy will be present for the Friday clinics and will take any registrations for the Lewiston Rec youth and adult summer tennis programs. The adult doubles leagues will begin next week.
