STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society will pay tribute to Stratton minister Burleigh Sylvester (1902-1966) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 26.

Sylvester was an evangelical minister at the Stratton Union Church (now a museum) for many years and was a friend to everyone he met. The historical society has photographs and memorabilia donated by Joan and Vernon Bean of Rangeley that will be placed in an album for all to view.

The society is also looking for stories about Sylvester to add to the album. Donald Hicks and Betty Sue Townsend Butland have already contributed stories.

The Dead River Area Historical Society is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every weekend throughout July and August. Displays include a collection of old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, a church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.
