FARMINGTON — Two men facing marijuana trafficking and growing charges after police broke up a drug operation in Industry in September of 2009 pleaded guilty Tuesday in Franklin County Superior Court.

Charles M. Correll, 50, of Industry and Robert J. Sirois, 56, of Farmington were both in court for a motion to suppress evidence but the motions were withdrawn by their attorneys after plea agreements for each were reached.

Justice Michaela Murphy sentenced Correll and agreed to a July 23 sentencing for Sirois.

Correll pleaded guilty to a felony charge of cultivation with a charge of marijuana trafficking dismissed. A three-year sentence was suspended and Correll was placed on probation for two years and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine. Along with drug search, testing and evaluation, he is expected to “testify truthfully” in other pending cases involved.

Murphy also accepted the state recommendation for sentencing of Sirois on July 23 providing time for a third charge of criminal forfeiture involving his vehicle to be cleared up, she said.

The expected sentence for Sirois on felony charges of marijuana trafficking and marijuana cultivation includes a sentence of five years with all but nine months and a day suspended, three years probation and a fine of $20,000 expected to be paid by July 23.

A potential for Sirois to face federal prosecution may have motivated him to accept the plea agreement but “you believe it’s in your best interests to do so?” Murphy asked Sirois.

Assistant Attorney General David Fisher said he had no control over what federal agents are going to do.

Drug agents seized more than 30 pounds of harvested marijuana found in second-floor rooms and a sophisticated growing operation with more than 100 plants of various sizes under high-intensity grow lights in the basement of Correll’s home at 1121 Industry Road last September, said Fisher while explaining the state’s evidence if the matter had gone to trial.

The drug agents found Sirois in a second floor room clipping marijuana buds, Fisher said.

Drug agents and state police conducted surveillance at the Industry location following a tip that Sirois had been harvesting in the area. At the time, drug agents estimated the street value of the marijuana at more than $200,000.

Two others were arrested at the Industry home, Eric C. Hall, 38, of Industry and Matthew W. Hemingway, 45, of Farmington.
