LIVERMORE FALLS — It looks like there will be another local race in town next month, and it has nothing to do with politics.
Maine’s Paper & Heritage Museum directors are holding a 5K race for adult groups and 1K race for children and young teen groups on Saturday, July 17. Proceeds will benefit the museum at 22 Church St. in Livermore Falls, President Sherry Judd said.
Registration will be at 8 a.m. that day at the museum for all races.
The children’s race will be begin at 8:30 a.m. and the adults race will begin at 9 a.m., Judd said.
Race organizers are Randy Easter and Jeffrey Meserve, longtime runners, who will also participate in the race.
Both races will kick off from the museum and center around the in-town area and end at the museum. The Foundry Road Trail will be included in the race.
Sponsors, volunteers and racers are still needed, Judd said.
She approached Livermore Falls selectmen Monday, first thanking the town for past financial support. This year voters declined to raise $1,000 for the museum at the polls on June 8.
Instead of asking for financial support, Judd asked the board if the museum’s race could come in under the umbrella of the town’s liability insurance.
Judd said the group plans to involve Area Youth Sports and the Livermore Falls Summer Recreation Program, a joint activity for Jay, Livermore, Livermore Falls and Fayette children, in the race event.
Town Manager James Chaousis said that he would check with the town’s underwriter to see if it would work.
Selectmen voted to approve the measure if it could be done.
