Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert and Ward 1 Councilor John Butler joined Sunnyside neighbors as they broke ground on the New Sunnyside Park recently. Sunnyside Park is located on the corner of Whipple and Winter streets in Lewiston, directly behind Central Maine Medical Center. The park itself was established as a City park in 1977, and features basketball courts, a playing field and a playground area. However, the playground has fallen in disrepair and the local Sunnyside Neighborhood Association undertook a two-year effort to have it rebuilt. The new park will feature a swing set, climber, seesaw and a multi-function play structure. It is expected to be opened by early July.
