LEWISTON — The Catholic Charities Maine Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage and Hope Program celebrated it’s 35th anniversary on May 24 at the Lepage Conference Center. SEARCH volunteers Marie Bisson and Danielle Boisvert and client Jeannette Hartford were guest speakers at the event.

Bisson has been a SEARCH volunteer for 16 years and spoke about helping many of the elderly clients with their tax and rent rebate forms and other household forms as needed. Boisvert and Hartford talked about their match and being together for four years. They do a lot of activities together each week and Hartford called Boisvert her “angel.”

The program has supported the elderly and those with disabilities in Androscoggin County for 35 years by providing trained and caring volunteers who support isolated or lonely seniors by providing companionship and transportation assistance so they can remain independent and connected to the community.

Catholic Charities Maine is still seeking volunteers from the community to help elderly clients who are currently on the waiting list. If interested in becoming a volunteer, contact Wendy Russell, program director, at 784-0157.
