South Lewiston Little League 11- and 12-year-old all-stars edged New Auburn Little League, 8-7, to advance in the District 5 tournament.
Kyle Ullrich hit a two-run single to begin New Auburn’s rally from a 7-4 deficit in the sixth. Ullrich later scored to tie the game on a Ben Harris sacrifice fly to left.
With the score 7-7 in the bottom of the sixth, South Lewiston leadoff hitter Elijah Harris smashed a triple into the left-center field gap and scored on an overthrow to third to end the game.
South Lewiston starting pitcher Ryan Bell pitched three innings, striking out five. New Auburn starting pitcher Jordan De Oliveira pitched 4 2/3 innings, fanning seven.
Bell led South Lewiston’s offense with two triples, a single, 3 RBIs and a run scored. Andrew Loisel added a single and 2 RBIs. Austin Merritt had two singles and Colby Bilodeau added a single.
Danica Nadeau cracked four singles for New Auburn. Zion Gurney had a double. Brendon Asselin and Ben Harris each added a single. South Lewiston advances to play Auburn Suburban on Monday, July 5 at Dirigo Little League field in Vassalboro.
Maranacook, Turner One reach Apple Valley finals
Eben Ballard pitched Maranacook to a 2-1 win over Greene in the Apple Valley Babe Ruth baseball semifinals. Maranacook met Turner One for the championship on Thursday night.
Zach Elwell belted a double for Maramacook. Cameron Guild and Nick Lacasse each added a single. Tyler Hutchinson doubled for Greene. Devin McMahan and Brandon McDonald pitched in with singles.
