100 years ago, 1910

NORTH JAY — A crowd of about 300 people attended the Big Bard dance last evening at Lewis Mosher’s. They came from far and near, and all seemed to be ready to do their part for a grand good time, which all can vouch for that were present, and it was way into the small hours of morning before the crowd could think of leaving such an enjoyable occasion. Good music was furnished by Herrick’s orchestra of Livermore Falls.

50 years ago, 1960

Lewiston City Clerk Lucien Lebel and staff are several degrees cooler these days. Prospects for the summer were rather dim after the city clerk’s budget request for an office fan was refused, but Ward Five Alderman Frank J. Bussiere brought one in the other day for them to use all summer. It sure was a help during this week’s sweltering weather, Lebel said yesterday.

25 years ago 1985

This Wednesday, the Auburn Community Band begins its second season of summer outdoor concerts. A total of nine concerts have been scheduled, all on Wednesday evenings, at parks in Auburn, Lewiston, Durham and Mechanic Falls.

The musical selections, which will vary each week, include show tunes, light classics, Sousa marches and popular patriotic songs.
