Lewiston’s 8th District Court will continue to hold evening small claims sessions throughout the summer, even though the legal mandate for such proceedings has elapsed.

District Court Judge Damon L. Scales said Monday that the Lewiston court will hold its small claims sessions from 6 to 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month.

Scales said the 1983 statute calling for such sessions expired Monday, but the most recent legislature voted to extend the period. However, this extension does not go into effect until 90 days after the close of the legislative session, said Scales.
