FARMINGTON – Franklin County commissioners will discuss an application Tuesday for a proposed $4.3 million loan to buy and renovate Church Street Commons and an expansion of the Sheriff’s Department building.

The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. July 6 in the commissioners’ office at the county courthouse.

Commissioners are looking to obtain a U.S. Department of Agriculture, rural development loan for the project.

The plan, which will go to referendum before voters in all county towns on Tuesday, Nov. 2, calls for moving all of the county government offices, except for district attorneys, to the Church Street Commons. The building is located across from the county courthouse.

An addition would also be added to the Sheriff’s Department building to move the communications center into.

Currently there are cramped quarters for both deputies and dispatchers.

The project unfolded as a way to alleviate space, environmental and safety issues within county buildings.

Commissioners are also scheduled to discuss a proposed application for grant funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and get an update on the Maine Municipal Bond Bank program.

Commissioners are looking to get the best funding deal for the project for taxpayers.

The commission will also discuss a proposed 2010-11 tax commitment, unorganized territory budget in relation to summer roads and fire protection and a letter of support for keeping the county’s communications center an enhanced 911 public safety answering point.
