Board: Sabattus Selectmen

Met: Tuesday night

Mixers, part II

Issue: Selectmen held a public hearing on whether to renew Mixer’s liquor license and special amusement permit.

The scoop: Lt. Matthew Prince said the department has gotten 36 calls about the bar in the last year, 23 of the 36 had to do with disturbances and half of those were called in by co-owner Michael Yohe. According to people in the audience, noise continues to be an issue. Yohe said he’s taken steps like having a single speaker off the ground and no entry after 12:30 a.m.

Up next: They’ll hold another public hearing on Mixer’s license July 20 at 6:30 p.m. with Yohe bringing additional information on the sound from an engineer.

Fire department workshop

Issue: Chief Don Therrien proposed reorganizing the Fire Department.

The scoop: One change: two firefighters working per diem, two days per week. They’d be charged with working on buildings and trucks. Money would come from the department’s budget, as is.

Up next: Selectmen called a workshop for 6:30 p.m. July 27 to go over the full proposal.

Town manager’s desk

Issue: Selectmen gave Town Manager Rick Bates the OK to sign a letter of understanding that extends the contract between the town and the Teamsters Local Union No. 340 for Sabattus police by one year, to June 2012.

Issue: He’s setting new to-be-announced office hours for the code enforcement officer.

Issue: Bates is also looking into the town’s generator. It’s currently using 30 percent of its capacity and has the juice to power more of the office, if rewired.
