AUGUSTA — Richard W. Craw, 69, passed away at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus, on Thursday, July 8, after a courageous battle against liver cancer with his life partner, Beverly Cantara, at his side.
He was born May 5, 1941, in Lewiston, to the late Jesse J. and Anita H. (Matthews) Craw. Dick graduated from Edward Little High School, where he was a Junior State Golf champion. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy for four years.
He had been employed by All Season Home Improvement as a salesman for 15 years. He had previously been employed by the Kennebec County Sheriffs Office for 17 years.
He returned to Augusta, where his passion for golf and commitment to friends and family never waivered.
Words cannot describe how Dick’s life forever touched our hearts. His dedication and loyalty as a father, brother, and friend will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
He is survived by his life partner, Beverly (Congdon) Cantara of Augusta; his children, Richard Craw Jr. and Melissa Craw, both of San Diego, Calif.; 12 brothers and sisters and their families: Jerry Craw of Auburn, Penny Pare of Lewiston, Sharon Greaton of San Diego, Calif., Thomas Craw of Matthews, N.C., Jesse Craw of Largo, Fla., Cassie Sharp of Redlands, Calif., Bonnie Craw of Auburn, Steve Craw of Lewiston, Cindy Craw of Oakland, Calif., Gard Craw of Lewiston, Vicki Anderson of San Diego and Lori Craw of Seattle, Wash.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
