LIVERMORE FALLS — When students and teachers return to Regional School Unit 36 in late summer, they will see new and improved technology in different forms.

Teachers at the middle and high school will get more professional development training on site throughout the year to help them continue to integrate technology into their classrooms.

Once all systems are ready, students in the upper levels will be able to send work from home, and teachers will be able to access programs from home to post grades and other work, district Technology Director Craig Suttie said Thursday.

All the schools now have wireless Internet services. The Elementary School went wireless on Wednesday, Suttie said.

All elementary schoolteachers also have laptops, he said. And there will be two carts, one on each level, that will have 25 older laptops on it that have been reworked for students’ use, Suttie said.

Four staff members will be attending a conference on Internet safety at the end of July and will share that information with fellow staff members.

The middle school will be all Apple Macintosh based, he said.

All computers four or more years old will be taken out of service, with some of them to be reformatted for other uses.

Suttie told board directors that he would also like to get a Technology Committee put together that will include board members, parents, students and staff.

The district’s new website, www.rsu36.org, is also up and running, with the old site to be taken off line within the next three to six weeks.

The district now has faster Internet service.

Suttie asked what the board would like to see on the website in regard to policies, board agendas and minutes.

“The website is pretty easy to upload documents, a little clunky but pretty simple,” Suttie said.

Superintendent Sue Pratt commended Central Office Administrative Assistant Beverly Stevens for all the work she has done to put consolidation information on the site recently.

Vice Chairwoman Denise Rodzen suggested that students be involved in the creation and posting of information on the website as part of a class.
