AUBURN — A 13-year city government veteran from Belfast will start as Auburn’s new city clerk Monday.
Roberta Fogg, the Belfast clerk since 1997, will replace Mary Lou Magno in the job. Magno left the city on June 9.
“When I talked with the people from Belfast, they said their old clerk left in 1997 and they doubted they’d ever be able to replace her,” Aho said. “But Roberta did. They told me, she was the one person that could do the job.”
Before going to Belfast, Fogg was town manager in Littleton. She’s been certified by the Maine Town and City Clerk’s Association since 2000. She’s also an instructor for that group, teaching workshops and classes on municipal clerking.
Aho said Fogg has also worked in other city departments, and he’s counting on that broad experience.
“Roberta has a level and depth of knowledge that’s different than we are used to,” Aho said. “I think she’ll be able to teach all of our staff clerking skills and records management. I think bringing her to Auburn makes us really good.”
Fogg said she’s scheduled to finish working at Belfast on Friday. She has family in Raymond and is looking forward to working closer to them.
“But I was looking for advancement, professionally and personally,” Fogg said. “Professionally, I’m at the top of where I can go in Belfast. It’s been great, but I’m ready to grow and expand who I am.”
Aho said he’s scheduled a swearing-in ceremony for Fogg at 8:15 a.m. Monday in Auburn Hall.
