OQUOSSOC — Mac Dudley, archery director of the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsmen’s Club and certified NAA Level II national archery coach, will provide her annual Olympic Style Archery Program for youth again this year at the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsmen’s club house on Old Skiway Drive.
The classes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, Aug. 4, 5 and 6, and are geared towards youth ages 9 and up.
Dudley said that each session will review and build upon the lessons learned the previous day. The sessions will include indoor and outside activities.
Indoor activities will include eye dominance check, archery safety rules and procedures such as proper shoes and clothing, safety equipment and equipment handling, parts of a bow and arrow, archery range rules and procedures, whistle commands and the nine steps to shooting bow and arrow.
Outside activities will include a warm-up exercise, equipment check, archery range rules and procedures review, nine steps to shooting review, shooting practice activity, shooting problems identification and correction activity, shooting games to enhance shooting accuracy and a cool down stretch at the end of each session.
When the students are finished with the program they will be archery safety experts, will know how to shoot Olympic style and will be able to practice their shooting skills safely on their own, said Dudley.
Interested youths are encouraged to register early as the class size is limited.
