On June 6, my wife and I were driving through your lovely state on a very rainy afternoon, en route from Ottawa, Ontario, to St. Stephen, New Brunswick. We were in Auburn, trying to find the on-ramp for I-95 north, toward Bangor. Although we had a map of Maine, the Auburn-Lewiston part was not sufficiently detailed for us to figure out how to proceed, especially in the pouring rain.

We were pleased, as Canadians, to find a Tim Horton shop where we stopped, hoping to get directions. Once inside, I saw a rather elderly couple having afternoon refreshments. After discussing directions with the gentleman for several moments, he said, “We live near where you need to go. You could follow us when we leave.”

Though we got delayed a couple of times by traffic, each time he stopped by the side of the road until we caught up. He ended up taking us to within 100 feet of the I-95 ramp.

My wife and I were most grateful for the very kind actions of our Auburn-Lewiston “benefactor.” As we have no other way of ever thanking him, I am hoping he might see this published letter and be aware of our gratitude.
