BERLIN, N.H. — Funeral services for Verna (Clinch) Marois took place on Saturday at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Home. Memorial prayers and mediation were offered by Sister Monique Theriault. Farewell remarks were given by her daughters, Laureen Poulin of Berlin and Gloria Ward of Salem, Mass., nephew, Eric Poulin of Gorham and son, Dan Marois from Poland Spring. Visitors at the memorial were treated to a snack of orange soda and peanut butter cheese crackers, one of Verna’s favorites. Fulfilling her final wishes, daughter-in-law, Denise (Boucher) Marois sang the hymn “How Great Thou Art” and her son, Dan sang “The Old Rugged Cross,” a hymn that has been sung at Clinch family memorials for more than 75 years.  Dan also read pages from Verna’s autograph book that she received on her 13th birthday in 1934. Among them were love notes written by her husband, Philippe, before they were married. The memorial ended with a poem of friendship written to Verna by her grandmother, Ella McCurdy Clinch, in 1934. Pallbearers included grandchildren, Wayne Poulin Jenks and Kenneth McPherson, great-grandsons, Ryan Poulin and Jake McPherson and Michael Jenks and Kirk Walsh. Graveside prayers were offered by Sister Theriault including a reading of the 23rd Psalm, one of Verna’s favorites. Interment was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Berlin, N.H.
