ANDOVER — “School Days” is the theme of this year’s Andover Olde Home Days celebration starting on Thursday, Aug. 5, when judging for the garden contest will take place at 10 a.m.
A band concert will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, on the common. Those attending may bring lawn chairs and blankets to listen to soft rock. Raffle tickets will also be available..
All day Saturday, Aug. 7, there will be food vendors, crafts, raffles, karaoke, arm wrestling, a fireman’s muster, pie-eating contest, photo contest, bike and doll carriage parade and horseshoe tournament on the common and in and around town.
An antique classic car show will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Akers’ Field, sponsored by the Western Maine Street Rods.
New this year will be a lawn tractor pull, with registration at 1:30 p.m. at the town garage. A pull and obstacle race will take place at Girmaldi Field starting at 2.
The historical society will host its flower show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Entries will be received between 5:30 and 8 p.m. Friday.
There will be a moon bounce, children’s games outside the town hall, fly-casting contest and barrel rides all day. A road apple roll will take place behind the tennis courts.
Buttons have a picture of the Andover School. On the back of the button there will be number for a drawing. There will be a coffee, doughnuts, luncheon and cookie walk from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Congregational Church. A chicken barbecue will start at 11 a.m. at the fire station.
The parade will start at 10 a.m. Judging for the floats will take place at 9:30.
There will be parking in Girmaldi Field just below the church. Sunday River will provide transportation from the lower recreation field to the church parking lot from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Harry and Tammy Hutchinson of Andover will offer horse-drawn wagon rides around town all day.
A dance will be held at the fire station on Saturday night, with music provided by One Step Up. There will also be an all-game show under the lights at the Ellis River Riders Horse Club field in South Andover.
At 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, there will be an all-day open show at the field in South Andover with the food booth open.
The library will host a Pennacook Valley Arts exhibit. There will also be whoopie pies and a raffle tickets sold.
