BANGOR — Ann Danforth of Lewiston has recently begun a summer internship in Congressman Mike Michaud’s Washington, D.C., office. Danforth, who graduated from Lewiston High School in 2007, is a rising senior at Vassar College.
“Ann has been a terrific addition to the Washington office,” said Michaud. “She has some firsthand political experience from Maine and really wants to learn more about the how the federal government works and the functions of a congressional office. I am lucky to have her working with our team on behalf of the people of Maine’s Second Congressional District.”
As an anthropology major and women’s studies minor, Danforth is eager to learn more about how laws are formulated. “In my college classes we spend a lot of time discussing the impact of public policy on various minority groups and their rights, but rarely are we able to see where and how it originates,” she said.
Interning for Michaud has provided Danforth with an opportunity to learn more about the legislative process, which she feels is important to her understanding of culture, society and gender. Danforth’s interest in politics stems from her involvement in the campaigns of her mother, Peggy Rotundo, who serves in the Maine House of Representatives.
