BIDDEFORD – The Auburn Suburban Little League 11-12 year old girls’ softball all-stars reached the state championship game before falling to South Portland American, 11-0, on Thursday night.
ASLL advanced to the final with a hard fought, 2-1 win over host Biddeford on Wednesday.
Biddeford threatened in the first but left runners stranded at second and third. In Auburn’s first, Olivia Paione led off with a walk, then Calli Murray singled. Kylie Martin tripled to the gap in right center, driving in both.
Martin settled in nicely on the mound, striking out 11 and surrendering only two hits over the route. Defensively, Auburn catcher Calli Murray threw out two runners attempting to steal third base, and left fielder Karli Stubbs nailed the potential tying run at the plate in the fifth inning.
Biddeford’s first two batters reached base in the sixth, but Martin then struck out the side to escape the jam.
Erin Martin and Abby Paquette each had a hit for Biddeford.
Taylor Whaley tossed a two-hitter for South Portland American in the championship.
Laurine German, Paige Carter and Miranda Gleason were repeat hitters for the champs. Sarah Hammond and Calli Murray had the hits for ASLL.
Molly Murray took the loss, striking out five in four innings of work.
South Portland will travel to Albany, N.Y., for the Eastern Regional.
