LIVERMORE — The cause of a Saturday afternoon head-on crash on Federal Road that sent four people to the hospital is still under investigation, said Androscoggin County Lt. Glen Holt on Monday.
Police were called to the scene on Federal Road or Route 4 near the intersection with Norton Road at about 2:45 p.m., he said.
For some reason, he said, a silver 2003 Ford Taurus driven by Lillian Pawney, 75, of New Vineyard, who was traveling north crossed the center line and struck a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling south and driven by Kevin McLane Sr., 39, of Raymond.
Both Pawney and McLane were flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
McLane was in good condition, said a representative for the hospital late Monday afternoon.
Passengers with McLane, his wife, Karen, 46, and son, Kevin Jr., 4, were also transported by ambulance to CMMC.
Pawney, McLane’s wife and son, were not listed as patients on Monday, according to a hospital representative.
Pawney was alone in her vehicle.
