LEWISTON —The Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way, continues its monthly programming, including workshops for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase the employability. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
The Unemployed Professional Group meets every Monday at 1 p.m. to support unemployed and underemployed professionals. Each week a guest speaker from the business community addresses the group on a topic related to personal or professional development or job search skills. Topics and speakers for August are:
Aug. 2 — 30 Ways to Maximize Employee Productivity, Genevieve Straight, Accountemps.
Aug. 9 — Open forum, bring your job search challenges and a copy of your resume, Cher Tyra, WMCA, Lewiston CareerCenter.
Aug. 16 — Effective Communication during Transition, Bruce MacMillan, MacMillan Associates Inc., Phippsburg.
Aug. 23 — Marketing Your Assets, Jim Milliken, Portland.
Aug. 30 — Affordable Personal Computers for Everyone! Jodi Martin, PCs for Maine, Searsport.

The FOCUS on Your Job Search Group meets every Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. Participants meet with an employment counselor and other business and community experts to discuss job search challenges and strategies. Topics and speakers are:

The New Mainers Job Search workshop meets every Friday from 2-4 p.m. This group is designed for refugees and immigrants who have limited English skills. Participants will explore applications, resumes, interview skills and job search strategy. Participants who are not able to communicate in English or Somali should call 753-9005 in advance to arrange for an interpreter.
New to the Lewiston CareerCenter are orientations for people with disabilities who are considering vocational rehabilitation services. Orientations are held the third Friday of the month. Service providers are also welcome to attend. For more information, call Linda at 753-9057 or TTY 877-796-9833.
The August Industry Information Tuesday, scheduled for Aug. 17 from 9-11 a.m., will feature customer service. A panel presentation by local business leaders and a group discussion will allow the opportunity to learn, and ask questions about customer service jobs. Registration is required for this event.

Aug. 9 and 13, or Aug. 23 and 27, 9 a.m.-noon. — The Career Decision Making workshop is in two parts. On Monday you will discuss tools you can use to help make career decisions. On Friday you will use the information you gained to make your career plans. Registration is required.
Aug. 20, 10 a.m.-noon — The Job Search Skills workshop helps you conduct an effective job search. Registration is required.

Aug. 12 or 26, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Resume Basics and Interview Skills. Explore the basics of resumes and applications and learn how to make your resume and interview stand out in a positive way. Registration required.

A CareerCenter Training Orientation is offered and provides an overview of training programs at the CareerCenter, eligibility requirements and information on accessing services. Ask CareerCenter staff for the schedule of meetings and to register (required).
Aug. 11, 10 a.m. (lasts 2 to 3 hours) — Essentials of College Planning for Adults. Learn about college and trade schools, entrance requirements, readiness and transitional issues of adult students, admissions procedures and financial aid. Bring last year’s income tax forms. Registration is required.
Aug. 4 or 11 or 18 or 25, 10:15-11 a.m. — An adult education representative will help explore options to improve job skills and which adult education programs or classes will best meet needs based on interests and career goals.
