MEXICO — A Canton man underwent surgery Friday afternoon at a Portland hospital as a result of an all-terrain vehicle accident Wednesday evening.

Kyle Dolloff, 24, was seriously injured when he was thrown off the ATV he was riding on a trail near Backkingdom Road in Mexico.

Gary Dolloff, his uncle, said Friday afternoon that the younger Dolloff’s neck was broken.

A spokeswoman from Maine Medical Center earlier on Friday said that Dolloff was in fair condition.

The accident occurred at around 8 p.m. as Dolloff, a logger, was riding with several other ATVers.

Gary Wentzell, Mexico Fire Department chief, said several firefighters, a utility vehicle, rescue sled and engine were dispatched to the scene. However, Med-Care Ambulance Service was able to reach the remote road near what is locally known as Jack Steele’s Field.

Gary Dolloff said his nephew was taken to Rumford Hospital, then immediately taken to Maine Medical Center where he remains.
