NORWAY — Police arrested a 34-year-old Oxford man on Thursday on charges that he broke into a residence, assaulted a woman and stole money from her.

Scott P. Bowie of Fore Street made his initial appearance in court Friday on charges of burglary, domestic assault, obstructing the report of a crime or injury, theft, and criminal mischief. The Norway Police Department charged him with robbery as well, but the District Attorney’s Office did not include the charge in its complaint.

According to a report by Detective Gary Hill of the Norway Police Department, a woman said Bowie visited her Greenwood Road residence earlier in the day and she got into an argument with him. She said he returned later in the day and kicked in the door, grabbed her by the throat, and slapped her in the face. The woman said Bowie also broke her cell phone when she tried to call 911 and took $129 from her purse, saying she owed him the money.

Bowie was arrested after he was found at a residence on Thurlow Street in Oxford.

Bowie’s bail was reduced from $10,000 to $3,000, with conditions that he cannot have any contact with the woman or witnesses to the incident, and he can not return to her home. Bowie had posted bail by Friday afternoon.
