WILTON — Alan G. Hartman, 84, of Wilton, died peacefully at his home with the Cunliffe family on Sunday, Aug. 1.

He was born in Haverhill, Mass., on Oct. 25, 1925, the second of two sons, to Abraham and Francis G. Hartman. After attending high school in Brookline, Mass., he graduated from Ohio State University in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in geology.

He traveled throughout the United States with lifelong friend Frederick Cunliffe and his wife, before settling in Massachusetts and later Mercer and Wilton, Maine. Alan was an enthusiastic and successful securities investor and avid follower of the financial markets. Alan was also an ardent football fan. His extensive knowledge of the players and the teams earned him the title of “professor of football’ among friends and family. He attended more than 700 football games and traveled across the country annually to college bowl games, and of course, the Super Bowl.

Alan loved jazz music from almost every decade. This love for and knowledge of jazz had a lasting impact on his family, who will always attribute their affinity for the genre to their beloved “Unk.” He was a loving member and an intricate part of the Cunliffe family and he will be greatly missed.
