TICONDEROGA, N.Y. — Marie (Mamie) Constance Whalen, 76, of 52 St. Claire St., Ticonderoga, N.Y., peacefully left our presence to meet the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 1, at Glens Falls Hospital after a courageous 18-month battle with lymphoma.

Born on Feb. 17, 1934, in Mineville, she was the daughter of Frank and Rose (Damian) Rotella.

She graduated from Mineville High School in 1952.

On July 20, 1958, she married Donald E. Whalen in Mineville and moved to Ticonderoga, where they started a family.

Mamie worked at International Paper for 40 years and belonged to the Quarter Century Club. Upon the death of her husband in 1997, she volunteered at Ticonderoga Elementary School for five years.

A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Ticonderoga, Mamie found great comfort and strength in the Lord and prayer and loved attending mass.

Mamie cherished her family and friends and found great happiness in being with her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. She especially loved to travel to Maine and other places to visit family with her sister-in-law, Isabel. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, playing Pinochle, watching “The Price is Right,” doing word search puzzles, and going to the casinos. Mamie had a true love for her neighbors and enjoyed sitting on the porch and socializing with them. She had a serious side as well as a humorous side.

Mamie was loved and will be greatly missed her her sons, James F. Whalen and his wife, Diane, of Lewiston, and Michael E. Whalen and his wife, Karen, of Minot; a daughter, Dannae E. Hall and her husband, Matthew, of Ticonderoga, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Ashley R. Edwards and her husband, Bradley, Trevor J. Connery and his partner, Scott Szekley, Allison D. Whalen, Michael E. Whalen II, Brandon M. Whalen and Anthony J. Whalen; her great-granddaughters, Charlotte R. Edwards and Kayla Szekley; her brothers, George Rotella and his wife, Genevieve, and Pete Rotella and his wife, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Irene Rotella, Isabel Rotella and Joan Rotella; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her granddaughter, Madison S. Hall; and brothers, Thomas, John and Joseph Rotella.

The Whalen family wishes to thank all those who were touched by Mamie’s presence for their love, prayers, support, comfort, and concern. A special thanks to her doctors, the oncology department, and T2 on the second floor of Glens Falls Hospital.
