OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will host its second annual Quilt Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the historic Center Meeting House on Route 26.

“Last year, we were successful in displaying over 100 quilts, not to mention all the other quilted items,” organizer Suzanne Hall said. “It promises to be another wonderful show.”

Quilts of all sizes, patterns and ages will be displayed on the wooden high-backed benches in the yellow clapboard hall, which is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. Some coverings will be hand-stitched, others done by machine and some in the process of being constructed.

Also, there will be wall hangings, table runners, bags and other quilted items.

The original pews of the 1829 building make the perfect place to display these items, Hall said. Some items will hang from the balcony in full display. Others will be draped over booths previously used by the townspeople for voting. Several clothes racks will be spread around the area, where there is room, to also display items.

Each quilt will have a form attached identifying who made it and/or owns it, and what town they live in. If the quilt or item is for sale, there will be contact information. The form reads: “Every quilt has a story. What’s yours?”

The society will hold a quilt raffle and a bake sale during the show. The history book, “The Annals of Oxford” will be on sale, as well as picture postcards with scenes of the town years ago.

A donation of $5 is suggested, with all proceeds benefiting the society.

The Oxford Mill End Store will have a large display of quilt fabric on bolts, displays of kits and crafts, patterns and accessories for quilters and seamstresses.

Quilts for the show will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 13, Hall said. Quilts are expected to be picked up immediately following the show at 3 p.m. Saturday unless other arrangements are made.
